New Shout Out Louds

I'm taking my first listen to the new Shout Out Louds "Work" album. This Is Fake DIY has a nice announcement and a Passion Pit remix of "Fall Hard" for download. Or , you can just get it at the band's site along with a free mp3 of the 4th track "Walls".

In the language of all my reviews on my blog: I really like Shout Out Louds. Recommended. My ears always hear a bit of The Cure's Robert Smith in the vocals. I am rather attracted to bands that use male and female vocals and this act keeps that attraction alive. Interesting percussion on this new one.

It's Raining Here

OK, Friday the 19th was my birthday. Enough of that...

My RSS feed had a post about the new Club 8 single, but the link was to Pitchfork. Not sure why it was not a link to their label, Labrador (does not a member of Club 8 run the label?). I don't want to over-do-it with links to Pitchfork! Club 8's "Western Hospitality" is available to hear here for now. It's quite different from what you might expect, if you have listened to Club 8 before.

The first song from Broken Social Scene’s forthcoming new album, Forgiveness Rock Record (available May 4th), entitled “World Sick,” is now available for download via the band’s website.

Insect Guide are offering a free download of their Lady Gaga cover of "Paparazzi" on myspace. I like.

Well, this makes for a decent post. Only other thing to say is that I have taken an interest the art/photos that In Strict Confidence has been posting of late. It's been a series of subdued creepy circus/vaudeville stills. I like this direction and I also dig the way their music is going...

It does not rain much here and I like it when it does. Mood.

Stripmall Architecture: new single

Stripmall Architecture is a music project by Ryan and Rebecca Coseboom, the very same couple behind one of the best genre-crossing electronic acts: Halou. Further back, they made beautiful bliss-pop as "Anymore."
Stripmall members also include Patrick Harte, Tim Hingston, Roberto Burgos and Erica Mulkey.
The debut CD "We Were Flying Kites" is available here. It's offered as a download as well (only $5 !)

I am posting this because I adore all the Halou and Anymore material I own. They even have perfect cover of a Cocteau Twins song, so please look into their work! Here Rebecca explains the idea behind the song 'Feeling This Is Like To Fall Awake' - a Halou song dating back to 1997.

Stripmall Architecture has a new single titled "Radium Girls" from the forthcoming album, "Feathersongs For Factory Girls" out and you can grab it for a buck here.

Glasvegas. Finally.

I have been waiting a long time to find a legal way to "embed" this video on my various social sites. It's not so much about the video as much as the soaring beauty of the song. Glasvegas remains in heavy rotation here.

Four Hour Friday

I worked for about four hours today, so I have some time to share some music stuff.

Anji Bee released the 3rd annual Chillcast Cupid's Hunt Valentine's Day Mix. I recommend not only for the quality of the music and her production, but every track is available for purchase on iTunes or as a free mp3!

A Few Moments of Bliss

Surely, I am behind on this and that, but the Internets is a big place! Here's an informative interview with SPC ECO, the latest Dean Garcia (of Curve fame) project. His very own daughter does the vocals, which is really cool. Read it all here.

Listening to Bear In Heaven today, as I do paperwork. A couple tracks really do bring out a Cocteau Twins sound. Right now, I have Brock Van Wey wrapping me in some kind of (non sticky) sound cocoon. Find some of his sound for yourself. Ambient listeners-to will be pacified.

I enjoyed the latest Chillcast with Anji Bee earlier today. All her tracks are "pod safe", which is a real accomplishment. Her show is as high quality as it gets, and her tracks are approved by the artists. I should try harder to be more legal, but my show has a broader range of genres.

The Electric Pop Group available now

The Electric Pop Group's new one "Seconds" is available at Matinee Recordings. The site has about six reviews of the disc. "Seconds" is described as "a study in multilayered, shimmering pop featuring jangling electric and acoustic guitars, bass, and prominent keyboards plus rich bursts of tambourine, strings and other nice instrumentation."

The Mystic Underground do it again!

It's a long story, but I am in love with this track tonight. Please, find a moment to comment if you like this track like I do. Tell him who sent you!

The Drums

We are Like Sugar listeners... and this band claims The Wake, The Smiths, The Legends, The Shangri-Las, The Tough Alliance, The Embassy, Orange Juice and Joy Division as influences. Uncanny. There are plenty of negative remarks about this band, but I don't care. This is good pop in the style of their influences.

Locals The Soft Pack are playing at the Tower Bar here in San Diego tomorrow night (2-2-2010). I really like the track "C'Mon" and wast thinking it would sound good on my next podcast.

Speaking of locals, congratulations to Recordable Colors on their article in the San Diego Reader! The track "I've Made Skin Crawl" is my faaavorite.
