Club 8's "Jesus, walk with me"

http://www.labrador.se/mp3/club8-jesus_walk_with_me-remix_by_jimahl.mp3
CLUB 8 - JESUS, WALK WITH ME (Jimahl Remix) - MP3

The first offering in a short series of remixes of Club 8's "Jesus, walk with me". As the song shows the duo in their most wistful & melancholic mood it's fair to say it's not obvious choice for a remix. Never the less, Stockholm's Jimahl handles the task beautifully.

"Jimahl's 8-minute remix settles into chill-out mode at the start, with Komstedt's voice criss-crossed by sleepy four-four beats, prominent bass, and sighing electronics. More percussion and melodic snippets join as the song heads into the chorus, then settles back into a wistful, spacious groove, with just a few phrases shining out of the hypnotic mists." PITCHFORK

The original version appears on the critically acclaimed "The boy who couldn't stop dreaming" (..."songs about love and the fleeting nature of existence pack an emotional punch." **** Q)

- In summer 2007 Johan told me that Club 8 was planning a new album. Ever since that I spent most of my days wearing my Sennheiser headphones, plugged into my computer. I felt that I really had to improve my producing skills in order to match the vocals of Karolina. I planned to make an old-school house anthem (cause I´d love to hear Karolinas voice in that content), I planned to make a slow, ambient, space-case lullaby (I also could imagine her voice fitting rather well in that suit) but in the end it turned out to be something I didn´t plan at all. I guess it´s always like that when it comes to rock´n´roll.

Yours Truly/
Jimahl

"It is absolutely essential to own at least one Lp by this group. I'd probably suggest this one as the place to start, but you really can't go wrong.” 10 + INDIESPINZONE

Cover Me On Friday: Bend and Break

Ummm... this is really late, but who's counting?
So, let's just download another lovely cover, okay?
This week it's Apoptygma Berserk covering Keane!
The track is bend and break. Remember, Keane is the band with no guitar....Apop adds guitar and a wee bit more electronics.

the pains of being pure at heart

Imagine if The Ramones traded in their leather jackets for anoraks, or Stephen Pastel actually threw Aggi off the bridge and married Black Tambourine's Pam Berry and had four babies that formed a pop band in 2007.

Meet The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, a New York four-piece who plays dreamy, noisy POP with boy/girl vocals, blissful melodies and blistering drums.

I wonder if this "Love Is ****ing Right" is a take on The Field Mice's "This Love Is Not Wrong"? Maybe I'll play 'em back to back on the next Like Sugar Popcast....

It's been 10 years since the last Portishead album! I hope this will be worth the wait (Massive Attack's 100th Window was a real disappointment). The official U.S.release date for studio album number three, titled Third, is April 29 courtesy of Mercury/Island.

Third Track List:
Silence
Hunter
Nylon Smile
The Rip
Plastic
We Carry On

Little Radio

I often tune into DJ Larry G's weekly online radio show "Radio Underground" at Little Radio. We have similar taste, so it's simply impossible to be disappointed!
Larry is a DJ at Club Underground in Los Angeles.

Baskervilles make it to single #14!

Baskervilles continue their free single project: Twilight 14. Each month, they release a single housed in a picture sleeve designed by a renowned contemporary artist. I played a very good pop track from this collection on my old podcast (CTRL-ALT-F6)(Come Up And See Me).
January saw the release of single #14 "Caught In A Crosswalk".

Ulrich Schnauss Update

Caught this update on the workings of Ulrich Schnauss. This guy works magic with a sound not unlike Slowdive's dreamy reverb and adds more electronic blips and bleeps, modernizing it all into an early 90's Britpop & Shoegaze dreamscape for today. Sounds even better on vinyl!
I played "Medusa" on Like Sugar's Shoegaze Edition in December 2007.

It's Cover Me On Friday

I found this great cover of Fascination Street here: http://www.myspace.com/flowfluxclan
This band is part of another called Action Biker. The singer works with a few other good Swedish acts like Nikson and Compute.
I think I played a track remixed by Flow Flux Clan on Like Sugar or was it Faction 6?
I'll come back to this....

I just picked this up and I have yet to give it an attentive listen:
