Like Sugar - A Synthpop Special Edition

Yet another Like Sugar mix is now available. This is pure electronic dance and heavily synthpop driven. I was inspired to do a synth version after listening to the entire De/Vision back catalog (they are on tour here in the USA!).

Easy lucky frEE

What, am I a teen again? Some of my posts are silly and I know it. Can't take myself too seriously. Seems people can relate to the lyrics I post on occasion. It's a "Hey, I think that way too" thing. Funny thing is, someone else expressed their feelings and wrote a song about it. I just copy-pasted the text of it. Reading is somehow a different experience than hearing the words. I use the blog as a journal of sorts. Best part is that I have no clue who is reading regularly. I guess that doesn't matter, as I'd say what I say to one person the same as I'd say it to 2,191,971 people. There's a hint in that number. Aging over here.

I am off to Los Angeles tomorrow to see De/Vision. A dream come true. Well, really, I never dreamed of seeing them live, but it's dream show. One of the best of the genre, to be sure. De/Vision, Wolfsheim, Mesh and Anything Box set the synthpop standard.

I'm staring out into that vacuum again
From the back porch of my mind
The only thing that's alive
I'm all there is

And I start attacking my vodka, stab the ice with my straw
My eyes have turned red as stoplights, you seem ready to walk
You know I'll call you eventually, when I wanna talk
'Til then you're invisible.

'Cause theres a switch that gets hit and it all stops making sense
And in the middle of drinks, maybe the fifth or the sixth
I'm completely alone at a table of friends
I feel nothing for them. I feel nothing, nothing

Well, I need a break from the city again
I think I'll ship myself back west
I got a friend there, she says, "hey, any time."
Unless that offers expired, I have been less than frequent
she's under no obligation to indulge every whim
And I'm so ungrateful, I take, she gives and forgives
And I keep forgetting it

And each morning she wakes with a dream to describe
Something lovely that bloomed in her beautiful mind
I said "I'll trade you one for two nightmares of mine
I have some where I die, I have some where we all die."

I'm thinking of quitting drinking again
I know i said that a couple times
And I'm always changing my mind, well, i guess i am
But theres this burn in my stomach and theres this pain in my side
And when I kneel at the toilet
And the mornings clean light pours in through the window
Sometimes I pray I don't die
I'm a goddamn hypocrite

But the night rolls around and it all starts making sense
There is no right way or wrong way, you just have to live
And so I do what I do and at least I exist
What could mean more than this?
What would mean more?
Mean more?
ohhhh

An Iris Interview

Iris

Connexion Bizarre has an interview with the always-superb Iris (Andrew Sega and Reagan Jones).
Read it here.
Austin, TX is drawing me in. Sucks that Iris won't be with the De/Vision and Seabound Alliance Tour for Los Angeles. Lucky Texans.

In other news, the new Apoptygma Berserk "Apollo" single is out January 16th. You can order it at amazon.de. A message from Cody Riebe on Apoptygma Berserk Fans on facebook says "I haven't found any US stores carrying it so, US fans might have to brush up on their German and import it. New album 'Rocket Science' will be released on January 23rd, at least in Europe. Our European friends can get it at amazon.de For our US friends, I recommend isotank.com, who have it up for pre-order. Aside from the regular edition of the album, there's a second edition which includes a DVD."

San Diego's Lady Dottie and The Diamonds!

This is my bar and my people! Yes, this is so FAR removed from what you might expect from Like Sugar...but it's about passion here. This band has energy and one cannot resist rocking out with them. Seeing Lady Dottie and The Diamonds is like going to church and getting filled with spirit. When the hat gets passed around, it fills with cash from all us dive bar rats!

ps the bar is The Tower....beyond hot in the summer. Full of rock-a-billy toughs and plenty of Pabst.

The Sound of Arrows: free track

The Sound Of Arrows - New Single (Free MP3)

Photobucket

From Labrador Records:

We're very happy to announce the brand new single "M.A.G.I.C." by The Sound of Arrows. It won't be released until January 28, but we're giving you an MP3 for free today.

Free MP3 download here.

The Sound of Arrows has gathered a young chanting school class, a girl singer from Tokyo and a handful of well hidden un-cleared samples which they’ve mixed with bouncy analogue synthesizers, soulful guitars and orchestral instruments over a hundred recording channels. The result is a marvellous mix of old TV shows for children, old school hip-hop, new disco and timeless pop hits! Out January 28.

It suddenly dawned on me that I really dig this track! It reminds me of The Go Team! or Junior Senior. I love the "uncleared samples". That makes me more likely to pay attention to these guys. I posted some links to a remix contest for this very track on my myspace page.

Huh. "Embedding" has been disabled, so I can only post a link to Charlotte Sometimes...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efpQkHJiMzg
Charlotte is my grandmother's first name, and a name I would probably include if ever a daughter is born to a wife of mine.

Like Sugar 20 is done. I just need to upload it and tag it and, and, and.... I think I will release a voice version and a voice-free version. All this to say THANK-YOU to my supporters...thanks so very much for the kind words in support of Like Sugar! Please comment here on this blog...likes and dislikes are welcome!
